Sustainable Tallahassee’s 2019 Annual Meeting was a “members-only” event in appreciation of those who are the most invested in our organization and our mission.
Peggy Sanford, our 2019 Board President, facilitated
the meeting and introduced new Executive Director Damian Pasquarelli who came
on board in August. In his remarks he complimented the strength of ST and our
members and the wide range of activities and focuses of our sustainability mission. Mike Mitchell, current Board Vice President, gave a short
presentation on “Strategic Doing” – a process that asks questions which result
in collaboration and action; for example, what would Tallahassee look like as a
vibrant and sustainable place to live, and more importantly, how could we make
that vision a reality?
For the business portion of the meeting Katherine Preston, chair of the Nominating Committee, presented a slate of seven new members for positions on the Board of Directors. They were unanimously elected and will serve a three-year term beginning January 1, 2020. Congratulations to these incoming board members: Gail Hankinson, Jeri Winkleblack, Hallie Gaudio, Shawn Youngblood, Kristen Summers, Salome Garcia, and Isabella Jaramillo.
(l to r) Hallie Gaudio, Shawn Youngblood, Jeri Winkleblack, Katherine Preston,
A special presentation was made to thank Jim Davis, our former Executive Director who resigned in May after three and one half years of leadership in our organization.
Presentations were also made to two longtime Board members
whose terms conclude at the end of this calendar year. Ed Bettinger has been on the board for seven
years, has been a major leader of our annual Trash Dash 5K cross country races and has given much of his personal time to volunteer at nearly all our events.
Becky Parsons has also been on the board for seven years, has been our
website and membership manager for nine years, has coordinated and written a
number of our “Greening Our Community” newspaper articles, and has served on
several committees, including the creation of our Kick Bottled Water
Special thanks go to Board Member Jack Diestelhorst and his wife Alice for hosting the meeting at their beautiful home. And thanks to Arnie Rogers for being our event coordinator. Board members pitched in to provide an impressive array of hors d’oeurves, heavenly desserts, and beverages. We are fortunate to have an amazing group of talented foodies and party planners among our Board!
