Big Bend Sierra Club's monthly meeting: Wildland Fire Science

  • October 10, 2019
  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • United Church in Tallahassee, 1834 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee

Dr. Eric Rowell, Wildland Fire Scientist with Tall Timbers Research Station, will speak about new technologies for prescribed fires.

In the West, years of fire suppression have left many forests with accumulations of fuel, putting communities at risk. In the Southeast however, we have been maintaining landscapes using prescribed fire and are increasingly viewed as a model toward which other regions strive.

Hurricane Michael however changed everything. The effects of the storm have challenged the way we treat large swaths of land, land that now has high-risk fuel accumulations. Come learn about a new paradigm, an east-to-west strategy that is hoped to help restore our forests, coast to coast.

6:30 pm – 8:00 pm (doors open at 6:15 pm)
