  • 5:30 PM
  • GrassLands Brewery, 603 West Gaines Street, Tallahassee

 Join Us at Green Drinks!

For our July Green Drinks program we’re pleased to bring you an update on Florida A&M’s Sustainability Institute.  Kathryn Ziewitz, PhD, Director of the Sustainability Institute, will bring her team to offer up a summary of the focus and activities of the Institute.

Highlights will include - -

  • An overview of student-oriented activities at The SEED -- the Sustainability Education and Engagement Destination -- which is a garden, orchard, and outdoor classroom space that is becoming an increasingly important part of campus life;
  • FAMU’s involvement in a citizen science network that is monitoring the establishment of tropical mangroves along our coastal shores in concert with rising temperatures;
  • FAMU's research focused upon improving understanding of social capital and resilience to face climate related hazards among socially vulnerable neighborhoods in our community.

For an excellent understanding of FAMU"s focus on social capital, check out the July 16, 2018 “Greening Our Community – Social Capital: A Pre-Requisite for Resilience” article by Dr. Bruce Srouble of the FAMU Sustainability Institute.

Green Drinks gatherings combine
an opportunity for conversation,
meeting others interested in sustainability,
and hearing an interesting speaker
on a sustainability topic.

Where is GrassLands Brewery?

It’s on Gaines Street, in the block just west of Railroad Avenue, across from the Marriott Residence Inn building.  Due to area construction, parking is limited, but is currently available across the street in the grass/dirt lot.
