recycled wedding market - february 25, 2018
What is a Recycled Wedding Market? A flea market of sorts for all things wedding related!
This event was Tallahassee’s first-ever Recycled Wedding and we're proud and excited that it was a huge success!
Over 400 shoppers came through the doors - some waiting in line over an hour to hunt for bargains among the tables of gently-used wedding decor. The event boasted over 40 professional vendors and recently-married sellers, selling everything from tablecloths and vases to centerpieces, signs, and many other wedding items.
For newly-married couples, this event was an opportunity to recoup some of their wedding costs by selling their gently used wedding items.
For recently-engaged couples searching for bargains or a way to make their wedding a little less wasteful, the Recycled Wedding Market was a chance to pick up needed items – from décor and linens to even a wedding dress – without paying the full retail price.
Professional wedding vendors and artisans also participated, reducing the stress and carbon footprint of wedding planning by offering a one-stop shop.
Jodi Wilkof and Lerena Fleck created and managed this event that was conceived in Sustainable Tallahassee’s Super Rs Committee as a way to reduce cost and reuse wedding items that would normally be used only once. Many thanks to them and to Aveda Institute for hosting the event at its location on Pensacola Street.
Jodi’s Greening Our Community article to promote the event was published in the Tallahassee Democrat. Read it HERE.
Our Rags2Bags team also donated 100 of their hand-sewn reusable totes which turned out to a hot item at the event.
The event was launched as a fundraiser for Sustainable Tallahassee. Although sellers kept 100% of the money from the items they sold, all entrance and registration fees went to Sustainable Tallahassee, bringing us nearly $4,000!
